Tell us about your brand and what inspired you to start Magic Playbook

Magic Playbook was inspired by our desire to bring back screen-free magic to childhood in the thick of the pandemic of 2020. We were both content creators and instagram friends sharing activity ideas for kids within our communities. The needs of modern parents for activities to keep their kids busy is what lead us down the path of starting Magic Playbook.

What advice would you give other aspiring female entrepreneurs?

Never stop evolving. Starting our business during the thick of the pandemic showed us how quickly things can change. We’re always trying to meet the needs of modern parents, which is an ever-changing dynamic. We keep fluid plans each year that we can adapt to fit our audience and survey them frequently on what their current pain points are.

Where do you find inspiration?

So much of inspiration comes from watching our own children play and the creativity and imagination they come up with. We’re always inspired by their abilities to create pretend play experiences and use things around the home in unordinary ways. We pay close attention to how we can bring these experiences to life for others.
We’re also both deeply inspired by travels. When we head to a different country, the highlight for both of us is getting to explore the little shops and toy stores that fill each city. We often come home with suitcases full of inspiration–whether for color palettes, packaging, or future products.

What sets your products apart from others in the market?

Our products are created by a team of busy parents who understand the needs and demands of modern parenthood. Making something playful for kids without compromising the aesthetic that we know modern parents appreciate sets us apart from other play-based brands in the industry.

How do you handle work-life balance, especially with the demands of running a retail business?

With 6 kids between the two of us, its a daily struggle to find a work-life balance. We’ve found blocking our time works best for us—if we can focus for a solid few hours on work tasks, then we can focus on motherhood. It is difficult to do both at the same time. Magic Playbook is a full team effort and we wouldn’t be able to do what we do without our team.
